Last week in an article on BoxingScene.com, former WBO junior welterweight champion said that the only way Juan Manuel Marquez could defeat current WBO champ Ruslan Provodnikov is by knockout. Alvarado had just lost an unanimous decision to Marquez and was stopped by Provodnikov last October.

BoxingScene.com recently spoke to Provodnikov to get his reaction to Alvarado's comments.

Speaking through his manager Vadim Kornilov who translated, Provodnikov said that he thoroughly enjoyed Marquez and Alvarado's action packed fight.

"I was at the Marquez-Alvarado fight live and I enjoyed it very much. It was a great fight," said Provodnikov.

Provodnikov didn't agree with Alvarado's statement and said that he wouldn't ever think that one of his opponents can only beat him by knockout. He said that he sometimes believes the opposite, in that he must knock his opponent out to secure a win.

The Russian campaigned for a fight against Marquez for months but the Mexican legend decided to face Alvarado instead. Provodnikov will instead fight Chris Aligieri next month and said that if he got the chance to face Marquez he would give him a more difficult fight.

"I don't think Marquez's only chance is to win by knockout. Usually I think that for me to win, I need to knock my opponent out. Alvarado is definitely correct in the sense that if Marquez fought me it would be a much tougher fight for him than the Alvarado fight. Anybody can win. If we meet in the ring we will see what happens," Provodnikov told BoxingScene.com.
