Junior welterweight contender Ruslan Provodnikov recently spoke to gorodokboxing.com about a possible future match up against pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather. BoxingScene.com recently caught up with Provodnikov and asked him for further clarification on why he thinks he can defeat the WBC welterweight/WBA junior middleweight champion.

"I think I will fight Floyd Mayweather in the near future and I think it will be a very exciting fight where I will push Floyd to have to change his game plan once or twice throughout the fight," Provodnikov explained while also say that he thinks his trainer will have the game plan to give Mayweather his first loss.

"I think with Freddie Roach in my corner I definitely will have the right strategy for Floyd to make him very uncomfortable in the ring with me, more uncomfortable than he's ever been before.  I'm known for making my opponents fight for survival. That's what I did with Timothy Bradley and I will do the same with Floyd Mayweather."

Mayweather is slated to face Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in a huge unification clash on September 14th in Las Vegas. Provodnikov doesn't think that the 22-year-old Mexican has the tools necessary to dethrone Mayweather and feels that he has a better chance to beat Floyd.

"I think that his fight with Canelo is a great fight but it will be very similar to that of Mayweather vs. Guererro.  I think Mayweather needs an opponent that will really push him and who will be able to adjust to his speed and just keep on pushing just like I did with Timothy Bradley who was much quicker than me.

"I don't think Canelo has the speed to do much damage to Mayweather even though he will be stronger and heavier. But we will see, again it's hard to make a prediction," Provodnikov reasoned.

The Siberia native finished our conversation by saying that he plans on being back in the ring soon and that he would like to thank all of his fans for their support.

"I also would like to say that I would not be here if it wasn't for my fans.  I love boxing and my fans help me do what I love.  I think with all the support I'm getting from my fans I will be able to bring many, many, more exciting fights in the years to come so please keep supporting me and I will do my best in the fights for you!" Provodnikov told BoxingScene.com.
