Provodnikov 'Disappointed' With Algieri, Wanted Marquez

After taking part in high profile fights against Timothy Bradley and Mike Alvarado, WBO junior welterweight champion Ruslan Provodnikov is "very disappointed" that Chris Algieri (19-0, 8KOs) will be his next HBO televised opponent on June 14th at Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York.

Provodnikov was hoping to face more of a high profile opponent. While Algieri is a good fighter, he is unknown to most fans and Provodnikov believes he won't get as much credit in winning as he would against names like Juan Manuel Marquez and Brandon Rios. But the "Siberian Rocky" was unable to secure either of his two targets.

"I'm very, very disappointed about that. For me the best option, considering that Bradley is fighting Pacquiao already, was Marquez. And also Brandon Rios, I really wanted that fight. After Marquez [was not available] I wanted Rios but the fight didn't happen," Provodnikov said.

You can't sleep on a fighter because they have a low profile. Everyone have to start some where.
