Ruslan Provodnikov (23-2, 16 KOs), the newly crowned WBO light welterweight champion, is back home following his historical win over Mike Alvarado in another sample of his irresistible fistic fire. Provodnikov landed in Moscow, earlier this week, and today has relocated to his second hometown of Yekaterinburg. Ruslan’s little Homeland – his native town of Berezovo – awaits its Mansi hero later this month. Provodnikov will hold a presser tomorrow in the Uralic Citadel.
Fresh of landing the Siberian Rocky, who is atop of the recent HBO’s Gatti List, had little to say about his plans but indicated he wishes to fight at home.
“I’m willing to fight for my Russian fans on a native soil”, the proud Mansi said. “I wish it won’t be in Moscow but in my homeland”.
More vocal was Vadim Kornilov, Ruslan’s manager. “First of all, Ruslan should take some rest to recover from these hard fights. Then we want Juan Manuel Marquez. We heard, Marquez said his main aim is to get a rematch with (Timothy) Bradley, cause he was “robbed” there. In all honesty, I think it’s just a way to get far-far away from Ruslan. Marquez lost almost all of the rounds against Bradley, there should be no rematch”.
On HBO - “We are loyal to HBO. We are loyal to those who helped our cause, our rise. HBO was behind us all the time, it helped us to land the Bradley fight and it continues to give us opportunities now. Team Provodnikov is fighting on HBO. If Ruslan continues to fight the way he fights with the same results, multi-dollar and multi-fight agreements can follow after us”.
On Freddie Roach - “Freddie hasn’t changed a bit over the fifteen years that I know him. Always fit, always ready to help us, he is in the gym from nine to seven every day. That’s about tells it all. If he hadn’t been the best option for Ruslan, he wouldn’t have trained him. But he was the best. He is the best”.
On Alavarado - “Much respect to him. We visited Mike in the gym to support him, to thank him for the fight. He offered no excuses. He said, Ruslan was simply better that night. If everyone had been as courageous and as modest as Alvarado…”
Meanwhile, another light welterweight champion and Ruslan’s compatriot has set his eye on Provodnikov. WBA titleholder Khabib Allakhverdiev (19-0, 9 KOs) is ready to go after the Siberian Rocky, says his brother Shafiddin.
“Ruslan had a great fight against Mike Alvarado, and looked impressive, getting an honorable win. As for the possible unification, we are eager to accept the challenge, as soon as Khabib is offered one. We are willing and ready to fight against Ruslan”.Tags: Juan Manuel Marquez , Ruslan Provodnikov , Khabib Allakhverdiev
