Yesterday in an article by BoxingScene.com's Carlos Boogs, Luis Carlos Abregu challenged Ruslan Provodnikov to a fight after both fighters get past their upcoming bouts. Abregu said that he has been avoided as much as Provodnikov and that a potential clash would be a Fight of the Year candidate.
When advised of Abregu's comments, Provodnikov issued his own statement to BoxingScene.com and took it a step further by saying that Abregu should bypass his showdown against Sadam Ali and travel to Russia to fight him on November 28th.
"I have said yes to the Abregu fight even when it was being discussed a month or two ago. I know that my manager has asked them if he would fight me at a catchweight because I can fight at 147, but my weight class that I'm most comfortable is 140. Vadim (his manager) said he never got a response from them on that. But I'm ready to go up in weight and fight him at 147 if it's the fight that HBO and everybody wants to see. I don't know who you're fighting now, but if you want the fight so bad, fight me November 28th in Russia. The offer is a half a million and a contract can be sent tomorrow," said Provodnikov.
