BoxingScene.com has been advised that promoter Joe DeGuardia was involved in a serious car accident on Sunday morning. The accident occurred on the westbound Long Island Expressway, in New York, at about 4:15 in the morning. DeGuardia was coming home from a show he promoted at the Paramount Theatre in Huntington.

A unidentified male was driving a black Honda in the wrong direction, with headlights off, and crashed head-on with DeGuardia's brand new Mercedes. The driver of the Honda was killed and the passenger, a female, is reportedly in critical condition. It has yet to be determined if the driver of the Honda was intoxicated.

DeGuardia was taken to Nassau University Medical Center and he's currently there for observation. Veteran matchmaker Ron Katz, who works for DeGuardia's Star Boxing Promotions, says DeGuardia suffered some bumps and bruises but walked away without any serious injuries.

"He's in a lot of pain, but if you look at him you would have never known he was in an accident - which is a miracle," Katz told BoxingScene.com.
