Prescott: McCloskey's Brutal KO Will Make Khan Faint

By David "Los Gatos" Rosenberg

Colombian junior welterweight Breidis Prescott (24-2, 19KOs) wants to make a statement on Saturday night at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast. He faces Paul McCloskey (22-1, 12KOs) in a WBA eliminator. The winner becomes the mandatory challenger to WBA "regular" champion Marcos Maidana. Both Prescott and McCloskey would rather secure a fight with the WBA's "super champion" at 140, Amir Khan (26-1, 18KOs).

Prescott knocked Khan out in 54-seconds in 2008, and Khan won a six round technical decision over McCloskey in April.

In order to move one step closer to Khan, Prescott must defeat McCloskey and he wants to do it by knockout.

"I don't want to leave this to the judges. I want to send a message in this fight. I want to win by knockout. I'll put everything behind my punches. McCloskey's knockout will be brutal. I know Amir Khan will be watching this fight. I hope his father is around to catch him because McCloskey's knockout is going to make Khan faint from the flashbacks of our fight," Prescott said.

Prescott's manager, Luis DeCubas Jr., tells there is no room for error against McCloskey.

"This is the most important fight in Breidis' career. If Breidis wants the big fights, like Khan and Maidana and Erik Morales - he has to beat McCloskey. And he has to look good for the networks to take notice. He wants to make a statement in this fight so the boxing fans put pressure on Khan and the other big names at 140 to fight him," DeCubas said.

Prescott will win this easy, Khan still won't give him a rematch though, after all why the **** should he? Khan has much bigger fish to fry, his loss to Prescott was a fluke, Amir has matured as a boxer…
