Povetkin, Roach Had Conflict Over Training Location

By Rick Reeno

A source with knowledge of the negotiations advised BoxingScene.com that Alexander Povetkin (24-0, 18KOs) and trainer Freddie Roach were unable to reach an agreement due to a conflict over the training location. Last week it was being reported that Roach was going to be the head trainer of Povetkin for his upcoming fight with unified heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, which takes place on October 5th in Moscow at the Olimpiyskiy Stadium.

Roach was very interested in training Povetkin for the fight with Klitschko (60-3, 51KOs), but he insisted on having the training camp at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, California. Because of his busy training schedule in the fall, Roach was unable to spend several weeks in Moscow preparing the Olympic gold medal winner. Povetkin, who lives in Russia, saw no reason to leave his home country, where the Klitschko fight is taking place, in order to train in the United States.

BoxingScene reported earlier that Roach has agreed to training former three division champion Miguel Cotto, who also returns on October 5th.

After watching this F- in action I've changed my mind. Wlad wins by ko in one! He's softer than a sleep number bed!
It just goes to show how much the sport has changed. A trainer would rather work with a junior middleweight than bend over backwards for a heavyweight contender with a title shot. Heavyweights are no longer the kings of the…
Really? What purse do you think is bigger? Roach would make double with Povetkin.
Roach will make 700000(10%)with povetkin & can make similar with cotto. He's a headliner in MSG. Cotto generates money
