Kenny Porter, father and trainer of IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter, says a fight with undefeated banger Keith Thurman is not a probable fight for the immediate future, because there is not enough money in the fight.
Porter (23-0-1, 14KOs) had a big 2013, which included an upset twelve round unanimous decision over Devon Alexander to capture the IBF title. Thurman (22-0, 20KOs) also had a big year, with victories over Jan Zaveck, Diego Chaves and Jesus Soto Karass.
"I don't think that's a realistic rumor, because truth be told he's a young lion, Shawn is a young lion, and with those type of guys you need to put the right people in front of them to let them go where they are going. Shawn has already got to that level, he's at that elite level now as one of the champions. I believe 100% that Keith is going to do the same thing. Once he gets there, he can clean out his side and we'll clean out our side, and then we can get together. It hasn't gotten to that point yet where either one of us think there is enough money on the table that it makes sense at this point in time," Kenny Porter said.
