May 20th was the last date mentioned for a possible welterweight showdown between WBO champion Manny Pacquiao and British superstar Amir Khan.

Last month, the former sparring partners took to their verified Twitter accounts to confirm that a deal had been reached to face each other, but when investors in the UAE failed to come up with the $38 million that was promised to stage the event - the fight fell apart.

Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum of Top Rank, had recently stated that WBO/WBC super lightweight champion Terence Crawford and former four-division champion Adrien Broner bring more to the table than Khan - which makes the likelihood of Pacquiao-Khan coming to fruition very remote.

If the fight were to come together, former welterweight champion Shawn Porter believes that it would be a tough fight for Pacquiao.

"I heard the fight was canceled but if that fight happens I think it would be a good fight," said Porter. "Amir has what it takes to beat anyone. He has the speed and the range. It's just a matter of him not getting caught."

As for who Porter, who is also a former sparring partner of Pacquiao, would like to see the Filipino fight next, he said he would prefer to see him hang up his gloves.

Pacquiao had announced his retirement from the sport last April, after dominating Tim Bradley over twelve rounds in their trilogy bout, but then he announced his return a month later - and came back to the ring in November to defeat Jessie Vargas for the WBO welterweight crown.

"I don't know who wins (a Pacquiao-Khan fight). Honesty, I thought Manny was done [when he retired last April]. I would like Manny to be done, I really would," Porter told BoxingScene.com

Porter will return on April 22 against Andre Berto, in a WBC final eliminator from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The winner will become the mandatory challenger to WBC/WBA champion Keith Thurman.
