Yet another reminder that boxing is a global sport comes this weekend, when HBO presents a live doubleheader from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. All of the televised action takes place in the 122 lb. division, but consists of four fighters from four separate nations around the world. It’s boxing the way it once was and the way it ought to be, if you ask the event’s handlers.

Multiple sources in Houston have advised BoxingScene.com that former super bantamweight champion Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym failed his pre-fight blood test because the Thai star tested positive for HIV [Human immunodeficiency virus is a lentivirus that causes acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, AIDS]. Follow-up tests were taken to confirm the result. The local commission refused to license the fighter after the result was confirmed.

by Cliff Rold - Break out the chants. Don the robes. Saturday night, on the HBO-televised undercard of the lineal World Jr. Featherweight title bout between champion Nonito Donaire and challenger Jorge Arce, one of boxing’s more excited cult fan bases has something to light some incense for. While Donaire has faced two high quality men in a row at 122 lbs. in titlist Jeffrey Mathebula and former titlist Toshiaki Nishioka, there is one name that dogs him in the eyes of hardcore fans. It’s not Abner Mares, the WBC titlist in the division who many feel would make the biggest money fight with Donaire. That fight is beyond just the hardcore. That fight is already into the realm of discussion as big business, or what can be big business in today’s Jr. Featherweight class.

Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym's attempt to win back the WBA super-bantamweight title suffered a knockout blow on Thursday after he failed pre-fight blood tests. The 32-year-old Thai was scheduled to fight unbeaten champion Guillermo Rigondeaux of Cuba in Texas on Friday. Poonsawat failed three blood tests, ending his hopes of regaining the title he lost to North Korea's Ryol Li Lee in Japan in 2010, his handlers said.

Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym has spent of his 50-fight career in his native Thailand. Most of the biggest moments through 11-plus years as a pro, however, have taken place on the road. The former two-division titlist fights for the first time in the United States when he faces unbeaten Guillermo Rigondeaux this Saturday at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. The bout serves as the co-feature to the 122 lb. championship between Nonito Donaire and Jorge Arce, with both fights airing live on HBO.

According to multiple sources who were involved in the negotiations, WBA super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (11-0, 8KOs) approved all of the opponents that were presented by Top Rank. In an earlier article, the management of Filipino contender Drian Francisco (23-1-1, 18KOs) were claiming that Rigondeaux turned them down in favor of Thailand's rugged former beltholder Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym (48-2, 33KOs). However, that is not the case.
