BoxingScene.com has been advised by middleweight titlist Dmitry Pirog (19-0, 15 KOs) that a unification clash with Australian Daniel Geale (26-1, 15 KOs) is in play for HBO early next year.
“If I don’t fight [Sergio] Martinez I’m looking for a unification with Daniel Geale right now,” said Pirog, 31”. “That’s one fight that we’re talking about right now, on HBO. They’re very interested in the fight.”
Pirog for one thinks that Martinez is avoiding him, weary of the power he displayed in his knockout upset of Danny Jacobs last year.
“I think after the Jacobs fight he realizes that I’m a danger for him,” the Russian Pirog exclaimed. “In the ring, nobody knows what can happen if you’re in the ring together.”
Still, Pirog thinks he will get his shot at Martinez sooner than later.
“Martinez and I, even if we don’t come together right now, I think sooner or later, we both keep on winning, I still think we’re going to come together.”
