Yota Sato of Japan has dethroned Suriyan Sor Rungvisai of Thailand as World Boxing Council super-flyweight champion in a 12-round unanimous decision. Sato, 27, dominated Tuesday's match at Korakuen Hall, central Tokyo, putting Suriyan on the canvas twice in the third round.

It was Sato's first crack at a world title and the victory improved his professional record to 24 wins, 12 of them by knockout, with two losses and one draw. For Suriyan, who had successfully defended his title in November, it was the fifth defeat against 20 wins, including seven knockout victories, with one draw.
