Photos: Wilfredo Vazquez, Rafael Marquez Face To Face

SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO - Former world champions Wilfredo Vázquez Jr. and Rafael Marquez, went face to face at a press conference for their August 4 clash called “The War, Puerto Rico vs Mexico” at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. A PR Best Boxing Promotions (PRBBP) presentation, in association with All Star Boxing, Top Rank and Promociones Zanfer, to be televised on Pay Per View.

Vazquez Jr. (21-2-1, 18 KOs), a former WBO super bantamweight champion, will fight Marquez (41-7, 37 KOs), a former IBF bantamweight and WBC super bantamweight champion,  for the WBO International super bantamweight title, scheduled to 12 rounds. Vazquez is ranked #7 and Marquez #9 in the WBO super bantamweight division.

“I know you”, Vazquez Jr. said to Marquez, “and I’m training for a big fight. I don’t underestimate you for your age as a lot of people do. I had two ways to continue my career, the long way, to make two or three fights and then go for a title or fight against Marquez, a veteran, as the short way. I choose the short way and I am going to fight against Marquez”.

Marquez, a 37 year old veteran, said that “I've been training for a month and a half and I've come to Puerto Rico for a war. Puerto Ricans know who I am and know that I come to bring a great fight”.

Meanwhile, Roman “Rocky” Martinez (25-1-1, 16 KOs), a former WBO junior lightweight champion between 2009 and 2010 with two successful defenses, will fight against Miguel Beltran Jr. (27-1, 17 KOs) for the NABO WBO junior lightweight title and in a WBO world title eliminator, scheduled to 12 rounds. Martinez is the #9 and Beltran Jr. the #11 ranked in the WBO 130lbs division.

Tickets for “The War” are availables at Ticketcenter ( www.tcpr.com ) calling 1 787 792-5000. The prices are $20, $40, $75, $125 and $250.
