By Rafael Soto

Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas - At the Arena Metropolitan, WBC super flyweight champion Tomás Rojas (36-12-1, 24KOs) of Veracruz retained his title by stopping Jalisco's Juan José "Goofy" Montes (19-2, 12KOs) in twelve rounds. The challenger was unable to come out for the final round.

He was beaten up to the head and body, with significant swelling all over his face by the late rounds. When bell rang to start the twelfth, Montes retired on his stool and the fight was waved off by the referee.
