Earlier today, a ceremony was held in Puerto Rico at the offices of Recreation and Sports. The 2012 awards were issued by the professional boxing commission of Puerto Rico. The ceremony was held by the Secretary of Recreation and Sports, Ramon Orta who announced the winners.

Among the winners - Juan "Cowi" Herrera and Luis Cosme for "Dramatic Fight of 2012" - which happened on February 18, 2012 where Herrera won by unanimous decision in six rounds. Another award was the "Fight of 2012" - which got issued to the battle between Andres Navarro and Rafael "El Pollo Blanco 'Gonzalez. It happened on July 7, 2012 where Navarro defeated unbeaten Gonzalez by unanimous decision.

In the category of "Rookie of 2012" - it was awarded to John Karl Sosa. Another prize was "Prospect of 2012" which was won by Jeffrey Fontanez who belongs to Miguel Cotto Promotions and H2 Entertainment. Fontanez (11-0, 9KO's) fought and won 7 times in 2012, 6 of which were by knockout.

Roman "Rocky" Martinez, the 130-pound WBO world champion, took home the top prize - "2012 Fighter of the Year."

Best Rican going today is fighting outta Philly. Puerto Ricans on the island better start showing that kid some love. Been hearing he's not too hot over there. Could just be haters hating though.
