Photos: Provodnikov Pounds Alvarado - Mega Gallery

Broomfield, Colorado - Ruslan Provodnikov, the Russian brawler nicknamed the "Siberian Rocky" captured the WBO junior welterweight title on Saturday night when Alvarado couldn't answer the bell for the 11th round. Provodnikov (23-2) knocked down Alvarado (34-2) twice in the eighth round with a series of punches near the ropes and finished him off late in the 10th. The fight was halted by referee Tony Weeks, who asked Alvarado a few times if he wanted to continue and Alvarado responded that he didn't.
Here we go with the "Floyd is scared of Provodnikov" after one good fight. It never ends. I would like to see Provodnikov against Matthysse or Garcia. Garcia beats him and possibly Matthysse. Floyds beats this guy easy.
d garcia…

Floyd is fighting Khan next. Provodnikov vs. Rios/Pacquiao winner is the only realistic option.

It was a great fight. Congrats to the new champion Ruslan Provodnikov. It will be intersting to see whether he vacates to go up to 147. Alvarado needs to move up in weight.
