Photos: Jhonny Gonzalez Honored, Given a New BMW

By Miguel Rivera

World Boxing Council featherweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez was honored during Saturday's event at the Olympic Gymnasium Juan de la Barrera in Mexico City, where thousands of fans erupted into applause and cheers for Gonzalez. Last Saturday night in Carson, Gonzalez reclaimed his belt with a first round stoppage of Abner Mares. At the show in Mexico City, he was presented with his new title by WBC President Jose Sulaiman, general secretary Mauricio Sulaiman, and promoters Reginaldo and Oswaldo  Küchle.

"We knew that he wanted a BMW, and here I have the key and it is waiting for him in the parking lot," said Oswaldo Küchle.

Gonzalez full of excitement only added: "This is proof that hard work always pays off, that if you fight for your dreams they will eventually come true. I never gave up and here are the results. Thank you very much to everyone for being here tonight because it is so special to me."
