Photos: Hernandez, Arslan Go To War at Messehalle Erfurt

Messehalle Erfurt, Erfurt, Germany - At almost 44 years, Firat Arslan came just two points short of accomplishing an enormous task - winning a major belt in the cruiserweight division at a record-breaking age. He performed well enough for Leszek Jankowiak of Poland to award him a narrow win over defending IBF 200lb champion Yoan Pablo Hernandez with a slim score of 115-113, but he was overruled by Frenchman Vincent Dupas (115-113) and, more importantly, American Shafiq Rashada (116-113), who both saw it for the Cuban.

Hernandez vs. Arslan was the most exciting fight I saw yesterday. I had it 115-113 Hernandez. Close but clear. No controversy whatsoever, that win is legit. Most people dismissed Arslan because he got stopped by Huck, but he beat him…
The consensus was also that it was a "robbery".
Really? Well I didn't score as I watched with a couple of friends, but i thought it was a close fight and Arslan probably threw it away by coasting…
It was a brutal fight. I cannot remember seeing any modern boxers ears as effed up as Arslan's. Both badly cauliflowered from Hernandez punches.
But I thought Hernandez was just pot shotting? /sarcasm
