Photos: Erik Morales' Last Stand, Kirkland Wins By DQ

Danny Garcia (23-0, 14 KOs) captured the vacant WBC junior welterweight title with a twelve round unanimous decision over four-division world champion Erik Morales (52-8, 36 KOs) on Saturday night at the Reliant Arena in Houston, Texas. The scores were 117-110, 116-112 and 118-109. Photos by Stacey Verbeek.

Junior middleweight James Kirkland (31-1, 27 KOs) won a controversial ten round disqualification over Carlos Molina (19-5-2, 6 KOs). Molina went down in the tenth round as the bell rang. One of Molina’s cornermen briefly entered the ring, which eventually led to the DQ call. Molina was ahead 88-83, 87-84 on two cards, while the third had Kirkland up 86-85.

Morales/Garcia was a nice clean fight though. Kirklands strong but wont get too much further on strength only, not with that glass jaw, even Molina had em worried in the 1st round. Alvarez knocks em out Ishida style.

Garcia vs Morales was actually a good fight on the surface, but the whole thing just ended being depressing because the Morales we know just wasn't there anymore.
