Photos: Dereck Chisora With Controversial TKO of Pala
Copper Box Arena, London - Continuing his road back to the elite and... the recent streak of very questionable stoppages, Derek "Del Boy" Chisora improved to 19-4, with 13 KOs, with a sick stoppage of Czech Ondrej Pala (32-4, 22 KOs) late into the third. Chisora acquired a vacant WBA International heavyweight title in addition to his already owned WBO International heavyweight belt.
After taking his fair share of lumps in the first two rounds, Chisora turned up the heat in the third round and unloaded with power punches on Pala. During the rally, he pressed Pala into the corner and the Czech boxer turned his back to Chisora and got nailed with a rabbit-punch. The referee jumped in and waved off the contest, which gave Chisora the TKO win.
I agree, he was also leaning over the post not moving, he could have been out on his feet for all the ref knew.
yea,,,,cant totally blame the ref on that oneComment by Dat on 12-01-2013
The only person Pala can blame for what happened is HIMSELF. He was doing great in the first 2 rounds, but unfortunately on the 3rd he gave the ref the impression that the fight needed to be stopped.Comment by walrusthewill on 12-01-2013
Only weird thing is that turning your back is grounds for losing the fight via DQ, not TKO A minor technicalityComment by KingTito on 12-01-2013
That was a bit strange. I mean, the way he turned his back and just stood there, maybe the ref thought he was out on his feet. I think it should have gone on, but I'm not gonna get too…Comment by Thurman on 12-01-2013
That was the biggest rabbit punch ever. Even Sam Peter would be impressed.Post a Comment/View More User Comments (17)
