At the Estadio Banorte in Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico, close to 12,000 hometown fans turned out to watch WBC silver middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (42-0, 30 KOs) win a ten round unanimous decision over rugged contender Billy Lyell (22-9, 4 KOs). The scores were 99-92, 96-94 and 98-92. Photos by Rafael Soto.
Junior middleweight contender Saul Roman (34-8, 29 KOs) was able to recover from a knockdown to stop Michael Medina (24-3-2, 19 KOs) in the second round with a barrage of punches.
WBC interim-super bantamweight champion Jackie Nava (23-3-2, 11 KOs) won a ten round unanimous decision over Frede Gonzalez (6-7-1, 2 KOs). The scores were 99-91, 99-91 and 100-90. Tags: Julio Cesar Chavez Jr |
Chavez Jr is the Mexican version of Sven Ottke. I wonder if he will ever actually lose, not because I think he is anything more than a c-level fighter but because it seems he will never actually step up and fight a serious threat.
