Photos: Argenis Mendez Training Hard For Barthelemy

Photos & Text: Reynaldo Sanchez

Argenis Mendez, the IBF's super featherweight world champion, is in training for his next defense against the mandatory contender Rances Barthelemy of Cuba. Mendez is training with coach John David Jackson at the Iron Mike Productions gym in Deerfield Beach, Florida.

"We started training on Monday November 4th, and plan to be in the gym about 8 weeks for this training camp to be in great shape for this fight in January 2014," said Mendez.

"We are in the first stage and gradually increasing the pace to put Argenis in shape. On Monday, November 4th, Méndez formally began training for this fight, however Argenis remains very close to the weight and that makes our job easier," said John David Jackson

"Fights are won round by round, we know that Rances is a great competitor and we will give boxing fans an exciting fight. Rances and I are two young fighters we're at our best and these kind of fights are what fans want to see in every fight for a world title," added Argenis

Damn..Mendez needs bigger fights! I hope he is able to put a boxing clinic on this guy. I would really like to see Mendez against Mikey Garcia next! That would be an amazing chess match! Bring it!
