Photo: Sherrington and Yonezawa Come Face To Face

Current WBF World middleweight champion and WBO World ranked Les “Lock N Load” Sherrington today came face to face with his opponent Japanese star Shigetaka Yonezawa. Their much anticipated bout is set to take place on September 20 at Southport sharks on the Gold Coast for the WBC Asian Boxing Council middleweight title.

Yonezawa, who of course became a superstar in Japan after being featured on many documentaries on NHK TV , has come to Australia armed with his big team. Yonezawa was short and brief at today’s press conference stating, “I am honored to be fighting Les Sherrington and given this opportunity to gain a world rating”

Sherrington today spoke to media and fans about his opponent and how he is looking forward to gaining new fans in Japan after he beats their Rocky story star. “Yonezawa has received huge support from Japan and has brought a fair team with him, I’m certainly looking forward to the personal challenge of the southpaw fighter, especially after prepping for a tall orthodox majority of our camp and now being faced with Yonezawa, the tough and solid southpaw.”

Sherrington’s trainer/manager, Brendon Smith said today that he is excited to be working with NHK TV, having Sherrington displayed on the Asian market and having his stable of champion fighters on showcase for the Gold Coast public come Friday night.

“I’m excited that all our stable of fighters are going to be featured on this show, there will be some quality boxing on the night with fighters Jack Asis, Brayd Smith, Will Young and Darren Askew to be wrapping up their final preparations for their October 4 title bouts on Smithy brings the big fights 5 in Toowoomba. I’ts been a great preparation, there is a lot on the line for Les and Yonezawa and we are looking forward to a great night of fights come Friday night.”

Also coming face to face for the first time at today’s press conference was the main undercard bout of Rohan ‘no mercy’ Murdoch and Togasilimai Letoa. Murdoch, who needs no introduction to the Gold Coast is coming of a good win against Les Piper, is excited to be back in the ring on the back of a great training camp.

The September 20 card will also feature a stack of local talent. Hot prospect Rohan Murdock will take on Togasilimai Letoa. Plus excitement machines, Jack ‘The assassin’ Asis, ‘The Great White’ Brayd Smith, Darren ‘Assa Marra’ Askew, ‘Iron’ Will Young, Brett Smith, WBU World Champion Corey Mcconnel and more.
