| Peter Quillin-Fernando Guerrero in Play For Feb. 9th
|
|
By Ernest Gabion Middleweight contender Fernando Guerrero (25-1, 19KOs) has advised BoxingScene.com that he accepted a proposal to fight WBO middleweight champion Peter Quillin (28-0, 20KOs) in a Showtime televised fight on February 9th from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The main event features Danny Garcia defending his WBC/WBA titles against former beltholder Zab Judah. Guerrero has won four in a row since suffering a TKO upset loss to Grady Brewer in June 2011. Quillin captured gold in October when he dropped Hassan N'Jikam four times to win a decision. Should the match get finalized, it would feature a rare situation where two fighters managed by Al Haymon are colliding in the ring.
I'm glad it's not Taylor but I don't like the fact that Guerrero gets an undeserved title shot. He hasn't done anything since getting starched by Brewer. At least he's not in the main event.
True.... But its not too many top MW's I would favor Quillin to beat.... GB se... |
I dunno, man. I like Pete a whole lot, but I think he's in for trouble versus a top guy. He needs more work. Even then, I'm not sure he'll ever be ready for an elite middleweight.
Me too I've been watching him long enough tho, how will we really know until he gets to... |
I just watched the Hassam-Quillin fight last night. I think Quillin lost most rounds but hes power carried him, he had long periods he just took off i think against a fighter tougher to get off their feet, he might be in trouble and loose a decision but do want to see him face... |
