Batman, insults, an injury and a smashed water melon… just some of the ingredients to the build-up to Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tyson Fury, a much anticipated world heavyweight title clash which is now just over two weeks away.
With the clock ticking down, both teams are putting the finishing touches to camps that fans hope will produce one of the best heavyweight fights in recent years.
One calming voice amongst the madness is Peter Fury, Tyson’s trainer and uncle. A man who has the daunting task of plotting the WBA/IBF/WBO champion's downfall and giving his nephew the tools and ammunition to give Wladimir his fourth defeat in 68 fights, his first in over 11 years.
An upbeat Peter spoke to Boxing Scene recently as the days ticked down to the clash that will be fought out in front of over 40,000 fans at the ESPRIT Arena, Dusseldorf.
“Thing are going fantastic,” said Peter of Tyson's pre-fight preparations.
“Tyson’s on weight. So it’s just condensing what he’s already been doing so preparations are going very well. We’ll stop training around the 18th, the 20th, stop sparring and just look forward to the fight.”
Team Fury will fly out one week before the fight to take care of all the final bits of “media press stuff” as he described it.
“All the work’s been done. It’s time for Tyson to relax and put all the hard work and all the energy back in the tank. He’s ready to go so we’ll start climbing the sparring down in the next two weeks.”
Many a boxing fan expects the toughest test in many a year for Klitschko who has looked dominant and more attack-minded in recent fights. Tyson has made many a noise in the lead up to November 28 and looks likely to win fighting or lose fighting and claims he has no interest in gaining a “boring” points decision in Germany.
“They’re going to see a hell of a fight,” was Peter’s message to the fans who have a ticket and those that will be watching around the world.
“I think you’re going to see Wladimir in the best condition of his whole career. I think we’re going to see the best Wladimir and we’re going to see the best Tyson Fury. We’re in for fireworks for sure.
“Wladimir’s not taking Tyson Fury lightly at all. He knows how serious a threat it is. He’s training out of his skin so we’re going to see a razor sharp Wladimir on the night and we’re going to see a razor sharp Tyson and there’ll be no excuses. The best man on the night will take it."
