Paulie Malignaggi Rips Keith Thurman Over Challenge

by David P. Greisman

Welterweight titleholder Paulie Malignaggi didn’t take too kindly to undefeated prospect Keith Thurman calling him out after Thurman’s win over Orlando Lora on this past Saturday’s “Boxing After Dark” on HBO.

Thurman, who scored a sixth-round technical knockout over Lora to raise his record to 18-0 with 17 knockouts and 1 no decision, named Malignaggi, Timothy Bradley and Floyd Mayweather Jr. as foes he wanted to fight.

Malignaggi responded on Twitter shortly afterward:

“I heard this fool call me out! I got one thing to say about that!!” he wrote. “Keith Thurman make my name taste like ass when you speak it!!!! Don’t ever call me out when you haven’t paid your dues!”

Malignaggi, a former titleholder at 140, picked up the World Boxing Association’s belt at 147 this past April with a ninth-round stoppage of Vyacheslav Senchenko. The victory brought him to 31-4 with 7 knockouts.

[QUOTE=simms601;12367923][FONT="Georgia"][SIZE="3"]Paulie's last five opponents leading up to Cotto had a combined record of 124-16. Doesn't sound like paper thin to me. Thurman just recently fought a guy two fights ago that was 19-14. Really? And this cat doesn't believe he…

Cmon' Paulie...gotta' think it would be on HBO. If you can school the kid, school him. It couldn't hurt your image to put on a boxing clinic against an up and comer that was having his butt roundly smooched by…

What, does Paulie not expect to have to fight contenders? I think Keith has the advantage in the fight; Paulie is quick though.

What's wrong with this fight again? He hasn't paid his "dues" to earn a fight with Paulie Malignaggi? SMH @ What boxing is turning into.

I think some of Thurman's friends have accounts set up :lol1: Paulie might very well give him a boxing lesson, but Thurman looks awfully big for 147, and Paulie does not have the power to hurt him.
