Paul Smith: DeGale Beat Overrated Groves, I'll Win Too!

Paul Smith says he will succeed where James DeGale failed and beat George Groves.

"I know I have the style to beat George Groves. He leaves himself open. I feel he is an overrated fighter who had a one-off performance against James DeGale."
Paul Smith Quotes of the week

The Liverpudlian challenges for the British and Commonwealth Super-Middleweight titles on November 5, having surrendered the former in December when he was beaten by the Olympic gold medalist.

Smith has since moved to Joe Gallagher's gym and rattled off first-round stoppages over Jozsef Matolcsi and Paul Samuels before being given a crack at Frank Warren's latest signing and a return to the big time.

And although Groves has done something he couldn't manage in beating DeGale, 'Smigga' is certain he will come out on top when the duo lock horns at Wembley Arena on Bonfire Night.

"I want my title back," Smith said.

"Regardless of the venue or where it is shown. I wouldn't care if this fight was behind closed doors. I am just aiming to win this. Nothing else is on my mind.

"I know I have the style to beat him. He leaves himself open. I feel he is an overrated fighter who had a one-off performance against DeGale.

"DeGale is an awkward fighter to face. When you get in the ring he surprises you with the shots he throws.

"For Groves he had the advantage having sparred with him in the past, there was no shock factor.

"His win against DeGale does not give me any nightmares."

Smith was ringside at the O2 Arena when Groves out-pointed DeGale in June and readily admits he thought it had gone the other way before the controversial decision was announced.

He has not watched the fight again, but will sit down and study the tape before he gets his crack at the champion.

And with his career back on track he is in no mood to leave his own fate in the hands of the judges.

"On the night I thought James had won," he said.

"I haven't watched it back, though. It is next on my list to watch I have watched all the other fights Groves has had. My first thought might be wrong I will have to see.

"Without doubt I can prevent this going the distance. We will have to see on the night, I have prepared for a very brutal 12 rounds."

You're having a laugh mate, Groves is as crude a fighter as you Pom schleps have offered, DeGale is the far superior fighter; Groves caught him on a cold night. hope…
