Patrick Mendy Promises To Destroy Patrick Nielsen

Patrick Mendy (14-5, 1 KO) has predicted to “destroy” Patrick Nielsen (17-0, 8 KOs) and take his WBA Intercontinental Middleweight Title when they clash at the Nordic Fight Night in Esbjerg on Saturday night. “There is a reason why I am called ‘The Tiger’,” Mendy said at today´s press conference at Blue Water Dokken. “I am strong, I am hard to hit and I am tough to put down. I have come all the way to Esbjerg to destroy Nielsen. He is in trouble.”

Nielsen refused to enter a war of words with his opponent. “I am not going to reply to any of his trash talk,” he said. “I´ll give my answer on Saturday night. We´ve had a very good preparation in Germany. I want to continue my winning streak in 2013, I have big plans for this year, so I need to kick it off with a good performance. Mendy will go down on Saturday.”

Promoter Nisse Sauerland expects a tough challenge for Nielsen. “Mendy is quite a big name in the UK because he won the Prizefighter tournament,” he stated. “Saturday´s fight will be televised live on Boxnation in the UK, and when we were in London for the Kessler-Froch media tour, a lot of experts warned us that this is a very difficult fight for Patrick. He definitely needs to be at the top of his game to hold off Mendy.”

Micki Nielsen, Dennis Ceylan, Lasse Pedersen, Puriya Haidari and local harbour hero Peter Gram will also be in action, just like Erik Skoglund and British amateur star Deion Jumah. Norwegian featherweight Andreas Evensen will also challenge European Champion Alexander Miskirtchian, with fellow countryman Tim-Robin Lihaug meeting Thomas Kugler. TV3 Sport 2 will broadcast the undercard live from 18:00 – 21:00, with TV3+ televising live from 21:00 until 0:30. The NFN is also available on Viaplay. Tickets can be purchased at www.billetten.dk .
