Pascal's Take: Hopkins-Dawson Will Be a Boring Fight

By Rick Reeno

Former WBC/IBO light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (26-2, 16KOs) is not expecting fireworks in the upcoming championship fight between Bernard Hopkins (52-5-2, 32KOs) and Chad Dawson (30-1, 17KOs), which takes place on October 15 at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Pascal won an eleven round technical decision over Dawson last August. He fought Hopkins to a controversial draw in December and lost a close decision in their May rematch.

Pascal credits Dawson with having the necessary skills to win the fight, but it's too close to call for the Canadian star. Because of their technical styles, Pascal expects a boring fight.

"It's sad to say, but I think that it's going to be a boring fight because both of them are technical. Myself, I like to bang and I like to make a show, so that's why the fights against Hopkins were really exciting. Dawson, he has a slow pace. And Hopkins, he also has a slow pace. So I think that it's going to be a boring fight. Dawson has the technique to beat Hopkins, but the thing is - Hopkins is an old fox. He knows all of the dirty tricks in the game. It's a tough call [on who would win]. I wouldn't [bet] my house on this fight," Pascal told BoxingScene.com.

I see Bernard laying an egg in this fight trying to be too perfect in landing that lead right like the one that dropped Joe, but he'll find the rounds slipping away from a 6'3" southpaw that will pile on…

I agree, I don't see this one being entertaining even though I know Hopkins is gonna press the action. This is why regardless of Hopkins-Dawson holding more importance, I was more open to other options like Bute. Just the styles…

Really what did Pascal do?? Land a right a various times and basically out worked/out pointed Chad. That uppercut had Pascal literally out on his feet and he needs to thank god he has a boulder for a head that…

Pascal still exposed Dawson. Dawson just doesn't have the killer instinct. I personally don't think Pascal was gonna get knocked out. He was in trouble but i think he would survived. Dawson's so overrated its ridiculous and people still don't…
Pascal should thank his lucky stars for that fluke win over Dawson -- it's made him rich and famous -- he should be an expert on boring fights since he's been in his share of them....
My dear fellow, You…
