According to Yvon Michel, the promoter of Jean Pascal, HBO promised them the Bernard Hopkins-Chad Dawson winner in 2012. Hopkins defends his WBC light heavyweight title against had Dawson on October 15 at Staples Center in Los Angeles. As BoxingScene.com reported on Monday, a proposed fight with IBF champion Tavoris Cloud fell apart after Cloud's promoter, Don King, continued to demand options on Pascal.
"Since we have not been able to get a deal with [Tavoris] Cloud, HBO promised us that Jean would face Hopkins or Dawson in 2012," said Michel. "Until then, we have the choice to wait or go ahead with another fight."
Pascal fought Hopkins to a draw in December 2010 and earlier this year Hopkins decisioned Pascal in their rematch. Prior to facing Hopkins, Pascal won an eleven round technical decision over Dawson.
Michel is likely going to bring Pascal back on December 10th in Montreal, and two of the names being considered are WBA champion Beibut Shumenov or former champion Zsolt Erdei. Pascal's next fight was going to be televised by HBO, but now it appears the fight might go elsewhere.
