Pascal: Hopkins, Accept Your Defeats You Big Crybaby!
WBC/IBO light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal is very eager to get in the ring with Bernard Hopkins on May 21. The fight is a rematch of their controversial draw last December.

WBC/IBO light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal is very eager to get in the ring with Bernard Hopkins on May 21. The fight is a rematch of their controversial draw last December.

"For reasons of confidentiality and out of respect for the process of negotiations, we are not going to comment to avoid any confusion or interpretation. Once these [negotiations] are completed, we will then publicly release the result," said Yvon Michel, President of GYM and promoter of WBC/IBO light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal.

Golden Boy Promotions won the purse bid for the upcoming rematch between WBC/IBO light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal, and former champion Bernard Hopkins. The fight is a rematch of last December's controversial twelve round draw. Golden Boy, who promote Hopkins, put in the winning with a bid of $1.9 million, while Pascal's promoter, Groupe Yvon Michel, put in a bid of $1.7 million. The WBC's Diamond Belt will be on the line and as BoxingScene.com has already reported, the date of May 21 in Quebec is likely. HBO is expected to televise.

Last year, HBO passed on Bernard Hopkins' December challenge of WBC/IBO light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (26-1-1, 16 KOs). The network reportedly had no interest in televising Hopkins (51-5-2, 31 KOs) after carrying his lackluster rematch win over Roy Jones Jr. Because of HBO's decision, Showtime televised what became one of Hopkins' best performances in years. Hopkins fought Pascal to a controversial twelve round draw. Many observers scored the fight for Hopkins and the WBC ordered an immediate rematch.

It seems that everything is set for Jean Pascal (26-1-1, 16 KOs) to defend his WBC/IBO light heavyweight titles in a rematch with Bernard Hopkins (51-5-2, 32 KOs) on May 21. They fought to controversial majority draw on December 18 in Quebec City. HBO has picked up the fight, where Showtime had televised the initial bout. The rematch may once again take place in Quebec.

By Lem Satterfield -Earlier this month, WBC president Jose Sulaiman has ordered an immediate rematch of the Showtime televised, Dec. 18, majority draw between light heavyweight (175 pounds) king Jean Pascal, of Canada, and former undisputed middleweight titlist Bernard Hopkins, of Philadelphia. The decision, by an overwhelming vote of 30-to-2 by the WBC's 32-member Board of Governors, was made despite Pascal's contractual obligation with promoter Gary Shaw for a return bout against southpaw former WBC interim titlist Chad Dawson of New Haven, Conn., against whom Pascal won an HBO televised, disputed, 11th-round technical decision in August.

By Keith Idec - Leave it to the almost incomparably inept WBC to get it right and wrong all at the same time. The 30-2 vote by the Mexico City-based sanctioning organization this week was an encouraging indication that its members fully realize Hopkins deserved better than a majority draw with Jean Pascal on Dec. 18 in Quebec City. And in terms of entertainment value, there is obviously much more demand for a Hopkins-Pascal rematch than a second bout between Pascal and Chad Dawson, whom Pascal beat by 11-round technical decision Aug. 14 in Montreal to set the stage for Pascal’s showdown with Hopkins. If Dawson wasn’t owed a Pascal rematch, this would’ve marked a rare instance to commend the WBC for trying to ensure that Hopkins gets another shot at becoming the oldest boxer in the sport’s history to own a recognized world title.

A vote taken by the Board of Governors of the WBC was released on Thursday and the sanctioning body has ordered a rematch between Bernard Hopkins and their reigning light heavyweight champion, Jean Pascal. From what BoxingScene.com/Netboxe.com has learned, the two sides have 30 days to reach an agreement. If they fail, a purse bid will be held in Mexico City on February 4. The winner of the battle will then be required to compete with former champion Chad Dawson.

There could be trouble in store for Chad Dawson. According to WBC President Jose Sulaiman, nearly half of the votes of the WBC's 32-member Board of Governers are in favor of an immediate rematch between Bernard Hopkins and light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal, after which the winner would then meet Dawson.
