MICHAEL Koncz, the longtime adviser of Manny Pacquiao, said they are not concerned about the Filipini ring icon’s former strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza now working with Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Koncz brushed off the importance of Ariza, who reportedly just signed a new, two-year contract with Mayweather, who described the coach as “a good guy,” whom he was happy to have in his team.
“I hope he enjoys the relationship with Floyd,” Koncz said rather sarcastically, even as he downplayed Ariza’s role. “He is not a trainer, not an expert in planning strategy and he has no effect on us whatsoever.”
He said Pacquiao, who has been training in his gym in General Santos City is “in fine spirits and looking good. Manny knows the importance of this fight and I believe that if he is focused and trains hard, he will win.”
He said celebrated Hall-of-Fame trainer Freddie Roach has already lined up a couple of sparring partners, but he didn’t get their names and they would check them out once they arrive at Roach’s Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles.
