The "Fighting Schoolteacher" Jeff Horn is no longer in the picture as both Manny Pacquiao and Amir Khan announced on social media that a deal was reached for a showdown on April 23rd. The location of the contest has not been revealed.

"Negotiations between team Pacquiao and team Khan have come to terms for the April 23 bout as this is what the fans wanted," Pacquiao wrote on Twitter.

"My team and I have agreed terms with Manny Pacquiao and his team for a super fight," Khan wrote right to his own social media followers.

Earlier this month, Pacquiao's promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank had announced that a deal was reached for Pacquiao to face Horn on April 23rd at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.

But then things took a turn when a week later Pacquiao would announce that his next fight would be in either Abu Dhabi or Dubai and said Khan was the likely opponent.

Earlier this week, both boxers revealed in separate interviews that a deal was very close to being reached after weeks of conflicting reports.

Arum told ESPN that investors from UAE were offering up a massive $38 million to secure an event with Pacquiao - and Khan, because of the location, was the preferred opponent. Still, Arum said that he was sceptical about the offer.

“Manny seems to believe they will come up with the money. I have some reservations whether it will happen or not,” Arum said a few days ago. “The Australian deal is not going to happen now, because Manny is trying to get a fight done in the United Arab Emirates, and the people there favor him fighting Amir Khan."

Pacquiao (59-6-2, 38 KOs) announced a brief retirement last year but made a successful comeback against Jessie Vargas to capture the WBO welterweight championship in Las Vegas in November, saying he still felt like a youngster.

Khan (31-4, 19 KOs) has been out of the ring since suffering a vicious knockout loss to Saul "Canelo" Alvarez last May at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. For that fight, Khan moved up to a catch-weight of 155-pounds. He was undersized and overpowered by the much bigger Canelo.

Pacquiao and Khan were once training partners, when Freddie Roach was their mutual trainer for several years. Khan parted ways with Roach in 2012 and hired Virgil Hunter.

There were conflicting stories over what transpired during the sparring sessions between Pacquiao and Khan. Roach made several claims that Pacquiao had dropped Khan several times and even knocked the British fighter out on one occasion. Khan denied Roach's claims and said he got the better of Pacquiao during their drills.
