The 2012 Power 100 ranking of the most powerful professional athletes in the U.S was released on Wednesday by Bloomberg/Businessweek, revealing two boxers in the top 100. Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. were the only two fighters to make the list. Pacquiao came in at number 28, while Mayweather was ranked at 49.

CSE’s Analytics team, lead by VP, Analytics, David Newman, evaluated more than 3,000 athletes across a variety of sports, with 50 percent based on "off-field" measurements and 50 percent on "on-field" performance.  CSE’s proprietary analytics utilizes a range of industry statistics, including data from E-Poll.

As the business of sports continues to grow, endorsement contracts increasingly impact players, teams, and the industry. These contracts take into consideration many of the same factors as the Power 100 ranking - performance, name awareness, appeal, influence, trustworthiness and overall popularity, among other things.

Social media, for example, played a role in boosting the rankings of certain athletes. The Power 100 rankings are based 50 percent on these on "off-field" measurements, and 50 percent on "on-field" performance using a variety of industry statistics
