Pablo Cesar Cano Eyes Ring Return in February or March

By Francisco Salazar

Pablo Cesar Cano could return to the ring in late February or early March, manager Rolando Arellano recently told Boxingscene.com.

While Cano has fought most of his bouts in his native Mexico, Arellano says it is more than likely Cano’s next fight will take place in the United States.

One option for Cano (27-3-1, 20 KOs) is fighting on the Saul “Canelo” Alvarez card that takes place on March 8th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV.

No word yet on an opponent for Cano, who is coming off a 12 round split decision victory over Ashley Theophane on September 14th.

There is also speculation as to what weight class Cano will fight at in 2014. Cano fought Theophane at a catch-weight of 141 ½ pounds, but fought twice at welterweight against Shane Mosley and Paul Malignaggi.

Cano lost a close 12 round unanimous decision against Shane Mosley in May and by split decision to Malignaggi in October of 2010. A majority of media thought Cano did enough to defeat Malignaggi.

Cano is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions.

I don't know what Salazar is talking about Malignaggi won the fist 8 rounds of that fight. Cano had his moments but you could clearly see Malignaggi won the fight.

In another of boxing's weird ironic twists, losing to Eric Morales probably helped jump start this kids career, that's when his name really started to get thrown around and help land him a shot at Paulie and Shane.

[QUOTE=bigcursedawg;14106162]I never thought about that match up and I would love to see it get made. He's never in a dull fight and there are so many great match up at 140 in general and Cano fan friendly style matchs…
