Orlando Salido Gets Badly Hurt, Rallies To Stop Haya

By Rafael Soto

Ciudad Obregon, Son - WBO world featherweight champion Orlando "Siri" Salido rallied after suffering two knockdowns to stop Filipino Weng Haya with 35 seconds remaining in the eight round at the Palenque Ciudad in Obregon, Sonora.

After an even first two rounds, Haya (15-5, 8KOs) caught Salido (37-11-2, 25 KOs) with a big left hook at the end of the third round. Salido got up at the count of nine and was saved by the bell. Still hurting from the previous round, Salido was dropped once again early in the fourth. Around the middle of the fifth, Salido got his wits back and started to battle back. In the eight he was punishing Haya before the fight was stopped.

In the co-feature, former champion Cristian Mijares (44-6-2, 20 KOs) stopped Alex Valdez (25-7-2, 19 KOs) in the third of a super flyweight contest.
