It has been almost a year since Orlando Salido last fought inside a ring.

The fighter known as 'Siri' will face Amphon Suriyo in a 10 round bout in Bacum, Sonora, Mexico, the home state of Salido. The fight will air on beIN Sports en Espanol.

Mickey Roman of Mexico was originally penciled to face Salido, but the fight fell through.

"I would've loved to have done that fight, but there was not enough money in Mexico for it to be made," said Gibbons.

Salido (43-13-4, with 30 KOs) has not fought since June 4, when he fought to a thrilling back-and-forth draw against Francisco Vargas on June 4 in Carson, California.

Salido, who currently resides in the Phoenix area, is winless in his last three fights.

In his previous fight in September of 2015, Salido fought to a majority decision draw against Roman 'Rocky' Martinez, a fight many boxing scribes at ringside thought Salido did enough to win convincingly.

There have been ongoing talks over the last several months between those who represent Salido and current WBO junior lightweight titleholder Vasyl Lomachenko. While both sides have spoken, no deal has been close to being reached.

Salido gave Lomachenko his only loss as a pro three years ago, winning by split decision in only Lomachenko's second fight as a pro.

Suriyo (18-2, with 14 KOs) also goes by Pharanpetch Tor Buamas, The fighter from Chiang Rai, Thailand has lost two of his last three fights.

There is a likelihood Salido and Lomachenko could face each other in late summer, but that all depends if an agreement could be reached and if Salido defeats Suriyo.

Gibbons is careful to acknowldge Salido's fight as a tune-up for Lomachenko.

"The word 'tune-up' scares me. It is a fight to shake the rust off. But this (fight) is more dangerous than the Lomachenko fight because a loss here and it's game over."
