Orlando Cruz's Return Being Set Down For August
By Rey Colon
Orlando 'Phenomenon' Cruz, who became the first boxer to publicly acknowledge his homosexuality, will again make history on August 10th as part of a card in Akron, Cleveland - the site of the GG9 2014 Gay Games being held from the 9th to 16th of August. The card is not part of these Olympics, which are held every four years and will feature 35 sports and cultural events.
Cruz (20-4-1 and 10 KO's) put together a streak of four good wins under All Star Promotions, based in Florida, but failed when he tried to win the vacant WBO featherweight to be defeated by Mexico's Orlando Salido and in his latest return he was defeated by Gamalier Rodriguez.
His opponent has not been made official, but among the several names being kicked around is Miguel 'Mickito' Soto (12-3, 12 KO's).
