According to welterweight/junior middleweight contender Omar Chavez (28-1-1, 21KOs), a rematch with Jorge Paez Jr. (34-4-1, 19KOs) will take place on July 7th in a location to be announced. On December 17th of last year, Paez handed Chavez the first defeat of his pro career with a ten round majority decision victory. Chavez returned in March and stopped Emilio Julio in nine rounds.
"The fight could be in Culiacan or on his territory, in Mexicali. I will fight anywhere. Look, I have nothing against [Paez]. What I want is to wash away the only defeat of my career, and show the public that I can beat him. This is a fight for pride and the desire to get even. Initially, I was going to face another opponent on the 9th of June, but things changed, and now we heading to a rematch against Jorge Paez," Chavez said.
Chavez will train under Manuel "Cochul" Montiel. Omar's older brother, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., trains with Freddie Roach, but Omar feels the American coach is too busy to take him on and he found it hard to get the proper sparring at the Wild Card Gym in California.
"I'll talk to [Montiel], because I want to train in Toluca. He works with his fighters in Los Mochis, but I want to spend about six weeks in the mountains of the State of Mexico."
