THERE was a controversial end to the big heavyweight fight last weekend between Vitali Klitschko and Odlanier Solis in Germany.

Four days after the dramatic ending of the WBC world heavyweight championship fight between Odlanier Solis and Vitali Klitschko and the controversial discussions regarding the result, promoter Ahmet Oner apologizes for his behaviour at the press conference after the fight.

Another Klitschko fight, another overweight contender slips on gravy and crashes to the floor in a heap of flailing limbs and broken promises. This weekend it was Odlanier Solis playing the role of fat and foolish fall-guy, as he went toe-to-toe with big brother Vitali and then tumbled over at some point in the first round. A right hand struck him somewhere on the head and then, en route to the canvas, Humpty Dumpty managed to twist his knee and effectively rule himself out of the contest.

by Cliff Rold - It was, in the end, a joke. The desire to see a compelling Heavyweight fight was, remains, strong. The hope that a fighter with the tools and talent of an Odlanier Solis could embrace those things and get himself into real condition was strong as well. It was wasted hope. Solis is what he is and he is an overweight Heavyweight. When he stepped on the scale a few under 250 lbs. on Friday, some hailed that he was lighter than normal, that he’d taken a fight with Vitali Klitschko seriously. It turned out he was just in better shape so far as being less fat, not to be confused with his best shape. In this corner, a bold prediction was made. In the pre-fight report card, Solis was picked to win…

by David P. Greisman - The main event featured the champion defending against a challenger who, we would later learn, wasn’t fit to compete that night. The ending came within minutes, an anticlimactic conclusion that left those in attendance jeering. Those who were watching it unfold on their screens wondered why they’d even bothered. Those who broadcast the embarrassment were left scrambling to figure out how to make it up to their customers. That is what happened eight days ago with Sting and Jeff Hardy on the TNA “Victory Road” wrestling pay-per-view. And that is also what happened two days ago with Vitali Klitschko and Odlanier Solis and the Epix cable channel and website. Sting’s 90-second pinning of Jeff Hardy – who must have either been struggling with substance abuse or some other problem – wasn’t wholly TNA’s fault. Though TNA hired Hardy and pushed a talent whose issues were well known, it was Hardy who created the trouble. Klitschko’s 180-second technical knockout of Solis – who suffered ligament and cartilage injuries in his leg after being hit with a right hand – wasn’t at all Epix’s fault. Solis is said to have had lingering problems in his right knee beforehand. Nevertheless, Klitschko-Solis was the selling point of the product that Epix put forth – a product that did little to inspire potential customers. This was the first foray into boxing for the premium (subscription-only) cable channel that launched at the end of October 2009 and, according to its website, is now available to more than 30 million homes (though that doesn’t actually mean there are 30 million subscribers)

Ahmet Oner, President of Arena Box Promotions, said Odlanier Solis proved in the first round that he has the capabilities to beat WBC champion Vitali Klitschko. Saturday's fight which took place in Cologne, Germany, saw Klitschko knock Solis down with a right hand, but when the Cuban stumbled backwards he injured his right knee and couldn't continue. Before the stoppage, Solis was doing well in the fight with his movement and quick punches.

According to IBO/WBO/IBF heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, there was controversy even before the boxers stepped in the ring on Saturday night in Cologne, Germany. Wladimir says promoter Ahmet Oner of Arena Box was trying to prevent him from entering Odlanier Solis' dressing room to watch the Cuban fighter getting his hands wrapped. The contract grants permission to a member of each camp to enter the opposing dressing room to watch the boxer get his hands wrapped. Wladimir was camp member selected by his older brother, WBC champion Vitali Klitschko.

WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko has issued an official statement on Saturday's first round knockout of previously undefeated Odlanier Solis. After being hit with a right hand, Solis stumbled and fell flat on his back. During the fall he injured his right knee and was unable to continue with the fight. Solis and his promoter, Ahmet Oner, are citing the injury as the reason for the stoppage. Klitschko has a different opinion. He believes the punch he landed had Solis out on his feet and because of that he stumbled down.

WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko took some time to discuss Saturday's first round technical knockout of Odlanier Solis in Cologne, Germany. Klitschko threw a right hand that landed. Solis stumbled backwards and baldy injured his right knee. He was unable to continue and fight was stopped. Klitschko was both happy and upset with the outcome. 19,000 fans paid a lot of money to watch a fight and instead they saw a three minute controversial ending.

On Saturday night in Cologne (Germany) WBC no. 1 rated heavyweight Odlanier Solis was stopped on his way to dethroning champion Vitali Klitschko by a serious knee injury. "La Sombra" was brought to hospital directly after the fight where an anterior cruciate ligament rupture, articular cartilage damage and meniscal tear in the right knee were diagnosed. "I haven’t seen a knee torn apart like this in a long time", senior physician Dr. Joern Michael stated after doing an arthroscopy.
