According to World Boxing Council President Jose Sulaiman, Olympic gold medal winner Odlanier Solis (19-1, 12KOs) has agreed to take part in the WBC's first World Cup. The Cuban heavyweight is currently training with coach Pedro Diaz. The World Cup is a tournament style competition being put together by the WBC.
The tournament will start in Mexico City on a yet to be announced date, and World Cup events will take place in a number of cities around the world. The WBC expects to have 48 fighters participate in four weight divisions of the ten federations affiliated with the sanctioning body.
