Unbeaten lightweight prospect Omar Figueroa will fight Dominic Salcido on the July 21 Adrien Broner-Vicente Escobedo undercard, according to Figueroa’s trainer, Joel Diaz.
The Golden Boy-promoted show will take place at the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio, with the main event being televised by HBO.
“Omar Figueroa has what it takes to be a world champion,” Diaz said. “Ever since I started working with him, I’ve been working more on improving on what he does well, like switching from righty to lefty, rather than changing him. If it works, no need to change it.”
Figueroa (18-0-1, 15 KOs), of Weslaco, Tex., has stopped his last four foes within two rounds. Salcido (18-3, 9 KOs), from Rialto, Calif., has split his last six fights, but has been inactive since a majority decision defeat to Eloy Perez.
“I actually used to train Dominic,” Diaz added. “I also train Vicente, and he’s knocked him out before, and so I know a lot about Dominic. Omar’s had a great camp and he’s ready for this opportunity.”
