Nonito Donaire Jr. A Father For The First Time

By Ryan Maquiñana

Nonito Donaire Jr. will attempt to add Father of the Year honors to his current Fighter of the Year credentials, as his wife Rachel gave birth on Tuesday morning via Caesarean section to their first child, a baby boy named Jarel.

The name Jarel is an acronym for "Jun[ior] and Rachel, Everlasting Love.”

The four-time world titlist reported the news via his Facebook account: “Bonding time. Thanks to all the the prayers. Rachel had to go through emergency C section, but everything is great 6lbs 12oz.”

Donaire (31-2, 20 KOs) is scheduled to return to the ring in November, with former nemesis Vic Darchinyan reportedly leading the pack to land the fight.

Ryan Maquiñana was the boxing producer for NBCOlympics.com during London 2012 and writes a weekly column for CSNBayArea.com.  He is a full member of the Boxing Writers Association of America and the Ratings Panel for Ring Magazine.
