RICKY HATTON LAUNCHES ACADEMY FOR PERSONAL TRAINERS AND FITNESS INSTRUCTORS

DESPITE being best known for his exploits in the ring, Ricky “Hitman” Hatton has further proven his ability to innovate out of it with the launch of the Hatton Academy.

Alongside running his promotional company, Ricky has made a successful move into training, coaching Sergey Rabchenko to European title glory.

And now he wants to pass his expertise on to fitness instructors, personal trainers and other boxing coaches so that they can enhance their own skills and teaching methods.

The Hatton Academy is the only boxing for fitness course in the UK to have official accreditation from the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC), the Register of Exercise Professionals (REP) and the Amateur Boxing Association of England (ABAE).

It is a two day course covering all basic boxing technique, pad holding principals and functional training methods.

On completion of the course participants are issued with two certificates and the chance to join TEAM Hatton. This allows them to deliver Hatton Boxing classes and be listed as a trainer on the Hatton website.

“I feel very proud to be in a position where I can pass on the skills I’ve learned in all my years as a boxer,” Hatton said.

“Boxing training can benefit everyone. It isn’t about learning to fight, it’s about improving fitness, strength and stamina.

“It doesn’t matter if you’re interest is in football or tennis or just someone who wants to lose a little bit of weight, learning about boxing can help you achieve your targets.”

Ricky runs the course alongside the Academy’s training and educational director Jon Eade.

Jon has more than 14 years experience in the fitness industry, working at some of the best health centres in the world. He has been teaching boxing to instructors since 2007.

“The Hatton Academy is the perfect qualification for any personal trainer or fitness instructor who is looking to utilise boxing as a form of exercise,” Jon explained.

“The course will give you all the tools you need to structure and teach safe and effective boxing techniques. We show the course participants how to deliver all major punching techniques and defensive moves.

“We already have over 2000 instructors qualified and now with the launch of TEAM Hatton the benefits for these instructors is endless.

“Ricky has brought a great depth of professional boxing knowledge to the course content. No other course can offer such in depth skills and training methods in boxing.”

WBO World Light-Heavyweight Champion Nathan Cleverly has been given the prestigious role of leading out Wales’ football team ahead of their Vauxhall international friendly match against Austria this Wednesday (6th February) at Swansea’s Liberty Stadium.

Welsh hero Cleverly, who makes the fifth defence of his title against mandatory challenger Robin Krasniqi on Saturday 16th March at Wembley Arena, will also carry the match ball  and take part in the half-time penalty shoot-out.

The 25-year-old star is a big football fan and was talented enough to be offered a schoolboy trial at Cardiff City, but instead stuck to boxing and has racked up an unbeaten 25-fight record.

“I’m honoured to be asked to lead my country’s team out for the match, it will be one of the proudest moments of my career so far,” said Cleverly.

“It’s always an electric atmosphere at the Wales matches, just like coming into the arena for one of my fights, so I’m looking forward to this one,”

“It’s been a few years since I’ve had to take a penalty and my sharp-shooting isn’t as accurate as my punching so I’ve had to go over to the local pitch over the weekend to sharpen up!”

Burns joint-headlines a blockbuster show with WBO World Light-Heavyweight Champion Nathan Cleverly, who defends his title against Robin Krasniqi, plus George Groves challenging for the Vacant European Super-Middleweight title, heavyweight Dereck Chisora* and Commonwealth Super-Featherweight Champion Liam Walsh, live and exclusive on BoxNation (Sky Ch. 437/Virgin Ch. 546). Irish middleweight contender, Andy Lee (28W-2L, 20KOs)   will return to the ring this Saturday evening against the durable Anthony Fitzgerald (13W-3L, 1 KO) at Belfast’s Odyssey Arena live on Sky Sports in the Betfair’s ‘Unfinished Business’ boxing event.

This will be Lee’s first outing since he suffered a seventh-round stoppage loss when he bravely challenged Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. for the WBC world middleweight title on June 16 in El Paso, Texas. Before the stoppage Lee was ahead on all three judges’ scorecards.

In September 2012 Lee made a career decision to relocate his training base to London and team up with Adam Booth, one of the most respected and sought after boxing trainers in the UK.

Lee believes fights in 2013 will provide him with the opportunity to rebuild his career and the Fitzgerald fight is the first step on that road back to title contention.

“I’m training now with Adam Booth, he’s an excellent world class trainer. We have worked hard together over the last five months in the gym reappraising my boxing style and making adjustments to my game. He’s a very smart and strategic trainer and he has taught me a lot of new things in a short period of time.”

“A new location and trainer has reinvigorated me, it is a new beginning and chapter in my life. I can’t wait to step into the ring and get back to winning ways. Anthony Fitzgerald is a game and gutsy fighter and he is looking for an upset.”

“However, I’m totally focused on the job at hand, I will be in Belfast to take care of business and leave nothing to chance. I intend to put in a quality performance and showcase my skills with an impressive win come Saturday night.”

“I would like to thank Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Sport for this opportunity to fight in Belfast live on Sky TV.”

Lee is presently ranked WBC # 7 and WBA #9; Team Lee see a win on Saturday night opening doors in the UK and Ireland for domestic fights with fighters like Darren Barker, Matthew Macklin or Martin Murray and also complementing and progressing his boxing career in the USA.

The Irish southpaw has repositioned himself and aims to exploit and benefit from two supply streams of fights on both sides of the Atlantic on his comeback trail. But first things first, Anthony Fitzgerald needs to be defeated and taken care of.

Belfast is the boxing capitol of Ireland and Andy Lee is confident he will imposingly defeat Anthony Fitzgerald ‘The Pride of Dublin’ at the Odyssey Arena in another memorable night of boxing in the City.

The main headliner bouts on Saturday will feature Carl Frampton challenging Kiko Martinez for his European super bantamweight title and Martin Lindsay will compete for the British and Commonwealth featherweight title against Lee Selby.

A host of other local fighters will also be in action; Martin Rogan, Jamie Conlon, Eamon O’Kane, Marc McCullough and Daniel McShane.

Sergio Martinez, WBC world middleweight champion who promotes Spanish fighter Kiko Martinez plans to travel and be at ringside on the evening.

Floor and tiered seats are on sale from the Odyssey Arena website www.odysseyarena.com priced £30, £40 and £60 and Ringside tickets at £100. Ringside tickets at £100 and Inner-Ringside VIP tickets at £150 are both available from Matchroom Boxing’s website www.matchroomboxing.com

The only thing I wanna read about Nathan Cleverley, is that he's gonna fight WBA titlest Beibut Shumenov.
