Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has been working overtime on finalizing, moving and reshuffling various fights.
Schaefer provided some updates to BoxingScene.com:
Lightweight contender Omar Figueroa (19-0, 15KOs) is potentially going to be part of the Saul Alvarez-Austin Trout undercard on April 20th at the Alamodome in San Antonio. Schaefer says there is a slight possibility that Figueroa could face the winner of this weekend's fight between WBA lightweight champion Richard Abril and Sharif Bogere.
On May 3rd, Golden Boy has reserved the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas to stage a Fox Deportes card, which is going to be part of the Mayweather-Guerrero fight week.
On May 18th at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, Schaefer is trying to finalize a Showtime televised junior welterweight bout between IBF champion Lamont Peterson (31-1-1, 16KOs) and WBC interim-beltholder Lucas Matthysse (33-2, 31KOs). In the other half of the show, Kell Brook will challenge IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander.
"Matthysse wants to fight, has agreed to terms. I know Lamont wants the fight as well and we are currently working on finalizing that as well. We should have more news on that in the early part of next week. If it does get done, it will be one of the biggest, action-packed doubleheaders that we've seen in a long time," Schaefer said.
On June 8th, Marcos Maidana (33-3, 30KOs) vs. Josesito Lopez (30-5, 18KOs) will headline a Showtime televised tripleheader at the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles.
"It's one of those fights that you know is going to be a fight of the year candidate and it can't go any other way because of their styles and the way they fight," Schaefer said.
And the Barclays Center in Brooklyn has been placed on hold for June 22, possibly for WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (32-4, 7KOs) to make the next defense of his title.
