Nathan Cleverly Eyes Shumenov, Hopkins-Cloud Winner

By Edward Chaykovsky

Nathan Cleverly (25-0, 12KOs) has one fight on the agenda, when he makes a mandatory defense of his WBO light heavyweight title against Robin Krasniqi (39-2, 15KOs) on the 16th of March. Cleverly's promoter Frank Warren won the recent purse bid to stage the bout.

Once he gets Krasniqi out of the way, Cleverly wants a unification fight with WBA champion Beibut Shumenov or the winner of the fight between IBF champion Tavoris Cloud and Bernard Hopkins, who meet on March 9th in Brooklyn, New York.

"I've got to perform and impress against this guy and that's going to set up the rest of 2013 then for the big unification fights... Everything will fall into place after this fight. If it all goes well with the Krasniqi fight, Shumenov is definitely in my sights and I would definitely like to fight the winner of Hopkins and Tavoris Cloud," Cleverly said.

Well he's beaten Bellew and Murat, hardly elite fighters but in the thin division are both around about the bottom end of top 10. Not fighting Braehmer wasn't his fault either but yeah I'm also very disappointed in the quality…

Krasniqi is no:1 contender so his oppo is improving at least. He has to take this fight hopefully, Shumenov after that, then the big guns - possibly Hopkins if he's still continuing. Plenty of big fights after Shumenov. Also, no…
