In a span of twelve months, 21-year-old Naoya Inoue (8-0, 7 KOs) became a two-division world champion and made himself one of the biggest names in the lower weight divisions. On December 30th he finished off a very successful year with a two destruction of longtime WBO super flyweight champion Omar Narvaez (43-2-2, 23 KOs). Inoue was moving up by two weight divisions for the Narvaez fight.
One of the biggest fights being talked about in the lower weights is Inoue vs. WBC flyweight champion Roman Gonzalez (41-0, 35 KOs). Gonzalez, who captured world titles in three divisions, wants to move up to capture a fourth belt and he previously called for a fight with the Inoue-Narvaez winner.
Promoter Akihiko Honda of Teiken Promotions, who works with Inoue and Gonzalez, says the fight is possible - but not until the end of 2015. More than likely, Honda is interested in having such a fight headline a New Year's eve card in the final days of December.
