Hall of Fame trainer Nacho Beristain was working the corner of Felipe Orcucta on Saturday night in Buenos Aires, as the young Mexican fighter lost a twelve round split decision to WBO super flyweight champion Omar Narvaez. After the match, Nacho praised the current state of boxing in Argentina - as Sergio Martinez, Narvaez, Marcos Maidana and Lucas Matthysse continue to position themselves among the best in the world.
"Argentina is experiencing a golden moment in boxing. Narvaez has been a world champion for more than a decade. Sergio Martinez has a technical capacity that I have rarely seen. The power of Lucas Matthysse and his triumph over Lamont Peterson has made him the best 140-pounder in the world. And 'Chino' Maidana is a fighter that has to be respected by any welterweight. They are ambassadors from a highly respected school in places that are known for boxing. Argentina has talent to spare and that has given them a healthy envy [from other countries]," Nacho said.
