According to a report by Courier Mail, former welterweight champion Joshua Clottey (37-4, 22KOs) is being considered as the late replacement for Anthony Mundine (45-5, 27KOs), who returns on January 29th in Brisbane. Mundune's original opponent, Carson Jones, withdrew with the flu.
With ten days remaining before the show, promoter Khoder Nasser is desperately trying to find a new opponent.
Nasser admits that he seriously doubts Clottey will accept the fight on such short notice, and if he doesn't accept they are planning to secure Clottey for Mundine's following fight.
The entire event is potentially going to be canceled.
"We're not going to be able to get him here on 10 days' notice. Our plan was for him to be Anthony's next opponent," Nasser said.
"Nothing's hard to believe in boxing - anything can happen at any time. We'll be trying our very best to make this event go ahead. Anthony has a vision of the boxers he wants to be fighting."Tags: Joshua Clottey , Anthony Mundine
